Office for Mac that comes with a Microsoft 365 subscription is updated on a regular basis to provide new features, security updates, and non-security updates. The following information is primarily intended for IT professionals who are deploying Office for Mac to the users in their organizations.

Note

For Office for Mac, you can have up to 25 licenses associated with the same Microsoft account: only one license for a Microsoft 365 subscription and multiple one-time-use installs of Office for Mac Home and Student or Home and Business. AutoSave is a different feature which automatically saves your file as you work - just like if you save the file manually - so that you don't have to worry about saving on the go. On the Mac, AutoSave is available in Excel, Word, and PowerPoint for Microsoft 365 for Mac subscribers. When AutoSave is turned on AutoRecover files are rarely needed. Unlock the full Microsoft Office experience with a qualifying Microsoft 365 subscription for your phone, tablet, PC, and Mac. Microsoft 365 annual subscriptions purchased from the app will be charged to your App Store account and will automatically renew within 24 hours prior to the end of the current subscription period unless auto-renewal is. Collaborate for free with online versions of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. Save documents, spreadsheets, and presentations online, in OneDrive.

• Starting with Version 16.21, Microsoft Teams will be installed by default for new installations if you're using the Office suite install package. For more information, see Microsoft Teams installations on a Mac.
• For security reason, Microsoft has deprecated the use of SHA-1. Learn more
• Starting with the 16.17 release in September 2018, this information also applies to Office 2019 for Mac, which is a version of Office for Mac that’s available as a one-time purchase from a retail store or through a volume licensing agreement.
• The update history information for version 16.16 and earlier also applies to Office 2016 for Mac, which is also a version of Office for Mac that’s available as a one-time purchase. Older versions up to and including 16.16 can be activated with an Office 2016 for Mac volume license. You can’t activate version 16.17 or later with an Office 2016 for Mac volume license. Most current packages for Office for Mac

The following table lists the most current packages for the Office suite and for the individual applications. The Office suite includes all the individual applications, such as Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. All packages are 64-bit only. The build date is listed in parentheses, in a YYMMDD format, after the version number. The install package is used if you don't have the application already installed, while the update package is used to update an existing installation.

The build date is listed in parentheses, in a YYMMDD format, after the version number. All releases after August 22, 2016 are 64-bit only. All releases prior to August 22, 2016 are 32-bit only.

To install Office 2019 for Mac

1. Go to Office 365 Online at http://login.microsoftonline.com.
2. Enter your netid@msu.montana.edu.
   You will be redirected to MSU's login page.
   
3. Enter your NetID@msu.montana.edu and NetID password as shown below.
   
4. Click the Install Office button, then Office 365 apps. The color of the button defaults to blue however if you have selected a different theme the button may be a different color.
   
   
5. Click the Save File button.
   The install file will begin downloading. Be patient this takes awhile. A wired connection on campus takes around 5 minutes, a wireless connection will take quite a bit longer.
   Once download is complete:
   
6. Open Downloads folder and double-click on Microsoft_Office_2019_Installer.pkg.
   The Office 2016 for Mac Installer window will open.
   
7. Click the Continue button.
   
8. Click Continue again and then Agree to the terms of the software license.
   
9. Click the Install button.
   
10. Enter your computer's password and then click the Install Software button.
    The install process will begin. Although it says it may take 30 minutes it generally takes about 5.
    
11. Click the Close button when the installation is complete.
    

You are ready to use Office for Mac. Go to the Applications folder to open programs.
